Job Description and Candidate Profile

Northminster Baptist Church searches for our next Associate Pastor for Students. This will be a full-time position. Our Associate Pastor for Students will serve as a member of the pastoral staff, helping to lead in all the general elements of pastoral ministry, including worship leadership and pastoral care. Their particular area of leadership will be the coordination of a comprehensive ministry of spiritual formation for students beginning in 7th grade and extending into college age, and their families.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree is required. MDiv or comparable training is preferred, but we are open to candidates coming from nontraditional pastoral backgrounds with an interest in pursuing formal theological training.
  • Experience working with youth in a church or church-related setting is required.
  • Loves ministering to and being with youth, while also leading in ministry to the wider congregation.
  • Values relationships and seeks to facilitate relationships within the youth group.
  • Is theologically thoughtful and curious. Is committed to their own spiritual growth and seeks to instill in others a desire to grow spiritually.
  • Is comfortable engaging youth in conversations of depth. Is not interested in providing easy answers, but provokes good questions and creates a safe space to explore them.
  • Is a strong communicator, both verbal and written, with an ability to connect with youth and young people.
  • Is a good listener, a trusted friend and mentor, and a discerning presence in the lives of youth.
  • Is comfortable leading a group from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Is competent in general pastoral duties of worship leadership and pastoral care.
  • Is competent in administration, such as creating and managing a budget, organizing volunteers, and coordinating a vibrant and multifaceted ministry.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience. Health and retirement benefits are included, as is a sabbatical after 5 years of service.
