Dan Forrest completed Requiem for the Living on January 7, 2013, and in the intervening three years the work has become one of the most performed major works in the sacred repertoire. First time listeners speak of the work’s immediate appeal and its power to help us ponder anew, through music, the awe and mystery of death. That the title unashamedly points toward the living is entirely appropriate as we enter Holy Week and begin that journey of understanding what Christ’s death means for us as Christians who are now living into the faith.
