January 26: The Lent, Easter, and Pentecost Cycle

Living the Story: A History of the Liturgical Calendar
The Christian Year, also known as the Liturgical Calendar, shapes the common life of congregations across the globe, helping us to keep time by the story of our faith. Yet, like so much of Christian theology and practice, this calendar developed over a number of years and comes to us as a synthesis of traditions that emerged all across the Christian world. Over these two weeks, we will take a closer look at the development of the two major cycles that anchor our year, discussing how and why they formed and where we might find meaning within them.
